Switching to SIP: Tips from SIP Providers

When switching to centralized SIP solution there are few steps to be taken. May be you are familiar with some of them like making sure that you have the required bandwidth or getting your network ready for it. Anyhow there are other features, though less discussed, but very important, as they can entail problems if not anticipated. Let`s overview SIP implementation tips offered by SIP providers.
Familiarize Accurately with the Documentation – To ensure smooth phone numbers porting from your current carrier to your new SIP providers you have to document your existing DIDs and circuits. This documentation should be close at hand long before the migration process is initiated as this process may be time-consuming. First claim your Customer Service record from your existing provider. This should be done long before they become necessary as it may take longer that you expect. The best option is to use e-bonding which ensures electronic transfer of DIDs and circuits to your old provider to the new one. But if your Customer Service record contains thousands of pages this option will cease to be the best solution, so you`ll have to review the printed version of your record. Either way, it`s better start early to be able ready for any challenges that can arise.

Be aware of Concurrent Order Restrictions – There is still another challenge you can face when migrating to SIP. Your existing carrier may limit you to a sole activity or open order on a circuit. This will mean that you won`t be able to make a new porting order in case it`s necessary to have voice or data going on with the circuit (porting request, ordering new DIDs, etc.). This may raise concerns especially when you are projecting stepped migration, i.e. plan to move some phone numbers today and some tomorrow.

To avoid this challenge you should ask your existing provider about restrictions of any kind, if there are any, before finalizing your migration project.

Centralized SIP solution has multiple benefits for your business. By starting early and collecting accurate document, as well as being aware of any restrictions put by your existing provider you will ensure smooth migration to SIP.
